I bought an item from a site called ps2cover.com on 2nd feb 2010, I paid with my debit card. The money was taken quickly but the goods never arrived. I emailed to enquire where it was and they said they would chase it up. After a while of waiting I emailed again and they said they would send another out, that was 23rd feb, but it never arived. I emailed again several times asking for a tracking number or proof of postage, and they finally answered saying it had been sent via Canada Post Small Packet Airmail service, there is no tracking number, except delivery confirmation. Again I waited and waited, and last week I emailed asking for a refund, but no reply. Now it is 28th March, nearly 2 months since the order was placed and it still hasn’t arrived, is there anything I can do to make them honour the transaction? It wasn’t a huge amount of money but it doesn’t seem right that they should get away with it, there must be some authority over online retailers surely? They don’t have a phone number on the site and have stopped answering my emails, so i don’t know what to do next.
This is what their site says about their location:
We have a shipping office situated in the heart of the video game accessory industry in Hong Kong. Most shipments will be sent via Express Airmail from our warehouse in Hong Kong. You will receive your parcel within 5-15 days after you have placed your order with us online. We also have a partner in sunny California and in some cases your package will be shipped from that warehouse, providing they is stock available. All main business operations however are conducted from Hong Kong, but all customer support and order handling is done from North American soil.

I have a home-based business idea that involves advertising my phone number so people interested in my service can call me. I have plans to run newspaper ads along with other marketing, which could potentially mean a number of calls (I hope). However, I am trying to figure out one small problem. How do I manage this when my "day job" is a place where I can’t take such calls? I KNOW other people have this figured out, so that’s why I’m asking! What’s the solution? Thanks!

I had a very successful small business with a partner for 8+ years. We started the business together, and shared equally in the profits. End of last year, he declared that he just did not want to do it anymore, he hated the industry, etc. Yet, I caught him bidding on a job after this, and I suspect that he continues to work for past clients even though our business entity is closed per se. He still has the same phone number and I wonder if the call record reads our company name as it did before (and how can I reliably check that out?) The closing of our business placed me and my small family in great economic straits, although I did find another job fairly quickly. I simply do not want my ex-partner profitting on the hard work that I put into the business with him together. What is my legal recourse please?

Oh, I just love the government some days.

I finished all of my taxes, both federal and state by the first week in February and then sent them in. I was owed a bunch of money by the federal government, but for some reason or another I owed the state of Maryland 4. "Okay", I thought. I had done some work in which I didn’t pay taxes initially so I just figured it came from there.

So I sent in a cheque with my tax return and all was well. I kept checking my bank statement online to see if they had cashed my check yet, but they hadn’t and a month had already passed. So I called them and they said they didn’t get the check with it. I am positive I sent it in with it, but just to be sure I tore my house apart looking for it and didn’t find it.
They gave me a phone number I could call where I could make a payment by phone with my debit card, so I did. Well, today, 2 months after I sent the check and 1 month after paying by phone, I see on my account statement online that the check had just cleared the other day. I called them and told them that they had processed two payments for me and asked if they would refund me one of them back. They told me they would not. They said that they would hold onto the funds until next year and credit it towards next years taxes. I informed the woman that I had never owed before and wasn’t expecting to next year. Then she told me that if I didn’t owe anything next year that I would have to come all the way to Annapolis, which is 2 1/2 hours away from me and file a petition to have the money refunded to me.

And since it’s the government I have no reproach and there is pretty much nothing I can do except take it like a man and cut my losses. Isn’t the government great?

What do you think? What would you do if you were in my situation?
